About Dixie Dachshund Rescue
We are a nonprofit organization incorporated in Alabama and serving the southeastern US. Our goal is to give any abandoned, abused or unwanted Dachshund(s) a second chance at finding a safe and loving forever home. We welcome new members who will help us by adopting, fostering, transporting, raising funds or can in any other supportive way help the Dachshund Breed. We also encourage our members to take a pro-active roll in preventing and reporting animal abuse of any kind.
When we are contacted about a Dachshund in need for any reason, we make arrangements to receive the dog and place it in a foster, or temporary home with one of our members. During this time with the foster parent the Dachshund is assessed by a Veterinarian. His/Her medical needs are evaluated, taken care of and shots are made current. The Dachshund is spayed or neutered if needed and also put on heartworm prevention. The foster parents will then assess the Dachshunds personality and needs, and aim to match the Dachshund with the right “Forever Home“. A Bio and picture of the Dachshund will appear on the “Available Dachshunds” page of the website.
Our desire is that the Dachshund will be adopted by a visitor to the website willing to give the Dachshund a safe, loving and Forever Home. Visitors to our website can submit an application for a dog on our Application Page. Our adoption committee reviews each application. For the welfare of the Dachshund, our criteria for adoption are strict and a home visit and reference check are required on all applicants. Once these requirements are met, the foster parent of the dog the applicant applied for looks over all info and makes the final decision. If you are dedicated to giving a dachshund a second chance and a “Forever Home“, please consider filling out an application and join us in our mission to help Dachshunds.
