280_debbie_1This is Debbie. She was left in a drop-off box at a shelter in Chilton County. She was starved, covered with fleas and ticks, heartworm positive, ill with a parasitic infection and had an upper respiratory infection. She was terrified of people. She came within days of being euthanized when a kind woman with a German Shepard rescue group discovered her in the shelter. When the woman contacted Dixie Dachshund Rescue Debbie was brought to Montgomery, Alabama where she has found a much happier life. She is now free of heartworms and is on heartworm preventative. Her upper respiratory infection was cured with antibiotics. The parasitic infection has been cleared up and she is free of ticks and fleas. She is eating so enthusiastically that she has gained nearly five lbs. Debbie has been spayed and had her teeth cleaned so that they are now sparkling white (they were pretty dirty when she came into rescue).

Now Debbie is a happy, healthy, little three year old girl who weighs nearly 14 pounds. She loves getting tummy rubs and enjoys her rawhide chews. She likes to go on walks and gives her foster mommy lots of kisses. She is very loyal. She is also devoted to, and even jealous of, her foster mom and dad. She gets along with her foster brother and sisters (except when they try to steal her rawhide chews). She will definitely protect her food. She has a cute little overbite so she needs to have her food put in a wide shallow pan so she can scoop it up easily.

600_Debbie_2_Although Debbie is fairly sociable with other dogs she does not like cats. She tries to get her foster mom’s cats to run away but they just won’t leave no matter how much she chases them around. Debbie cannot go to a home where there are cats.

Debbie is in the process of potty training. As long as she is taken out frequently she does well, but she does need to be watched. When she first came to her foster home she had to be confined away from the other dogs and she used puppy-training pads during this time.

If you are interested in a sweet, loyal and loving little girl fill out the application and say that you are interested in adopting Debbie. If you have any questions about Debbie, contact her foster mom at nut4rabbit@aol.com. Debbie is being fostered in Millbrook, AL
